Top 10 best painters and their works
Famous painters are so many that I have selected for this list what I consider to be the top 10 best painters known of the western world. The task is not easy, because its degree of popularity varies according to each country depending on the importance given to the artist in the education system and the dissemination of his work in museums, media and other popular culture channels.

Famous painters: Pablo Picasso
Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), a Spanish painter, is possibly the most famous painter in the world and, without a doubt, the most famous painter of the 20th century. In addition to his artistic merits as one of the leaders of the cubist movement, his high price in the art market and stories about his turbulent love life have contributed to his popularity.

Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890), Dutch painter and prominent figure of Post-Impressionism, is the favourite painter par excellence. His fans sympathize with the expressive interpretation of the motives of his paintings, his vivid colours, his loose brushstrokes and a dramatic story about passion for art, commercial failure and madness.

Claude Monet (1840-1926), a French painter, is another of the favourite painters of painting enthusiasts. In fact, the name of this artistic movement comes from his painting Impression, Sunrise (1873).

For many the living portrait of the artistic genius, for others one of the most overrated artists. A character so famous that even his thin, long and curly moustache has gone down in history.

An exceptional historical figure, surrounded by an aura of mystery from which the entertainment industry has been added increasing its fame.

Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606-1669), the most famous painter of the Dutch Golden Age. His mastery in the treatment of lights and shadows is so popular that Rembrandt lighting is practised in photographic portraits.

Considered one of the best portraitists in the history of art.

If you have come this far you will have noticed that this list of the most famous painters in the world does not reflect the variety of art. They are all white European men who developed their work in countries that are dominant economically and of great cultural development during their time. Perhaps in a few more generations, school books give a more heterogeneous group of artists a greater importance within the history of universal art.
