Mrinmoy Barua - The Contemporary Artist

It is hard enough for an artist to write about his own works. For no artist can keep aside the overwhelming effect of his own art while discussing the depths and heights of an artwork. Moreover, no artist will readily agree to wear what one may define as the mask of Impartiality. Born in 1972 in Kolkata, believes inherited his passion and love for contemporary art prints from his maternal Grandfather who was a righteous freedom fighter for the country during the freedom struggle. Mrinmoy in his long professional journey of 24 years is known for his unique style of Abstract Art and Mammoth size figurative canvas paintings. Graduated from Jamia Millia Islamia University in the year 1996 and Post-Graduation from Delhi College of Arts in the year 1998, started earning his living from his college days by selling his work of Art.

In the path of his professional carrier, apart from winning various state-level awards starting with Shankar’s International Award, Al-Flaha Merit Scholarship, Lalit Kala Academy, Lucknow, Sahitya Kala Parishad, Delhi, All India Fine Art and Craft Society and being in the newspaper columns. He has won the national award in 2002 and has the privilege to be honoured by honourable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. Apart from awards he has also participated in various prestigious exhibitions at Birla Academy, Kolkata, Lalit Kala Academy, Assam and Kala Khazana in Phuket.

Mrinmoy Barua’s Abstract Art has a uniqueness of its own which is primarily the amalgamation of colours, thereby portraying a blend of high course and flat course texture, superimposed by a perfect balance of vibrant brush strokes, precise roller impact and spatula impact.

It is his continuing dedication to Abstract Art that can inspire once curiosity about the reaches of his imagination and hence he has the potential to create something unique. His Abstract works encourages others to see with their minds what they cannot see physically with their eyes.

The figurative work has an underline statement of Force, Power, Freedom, ecstasy, life, Spirituality, and Need. He believes in women empowerment and depicts women in all forms, as a source of life, inspiration, spirituality, love, et.c. The proverb “Painting is poetry or story” is distinctively evident in his work and further, the colour miscellany and imprint makes it more impactful.

Mr. Barua’s works have been appreciated and displayed across various corporate groups, start hotels and celebrities.

A landmark in the field of art, The Vivacious  is Mrinmoy Barua's first Solo Art Exhibition, held at The Visual Arts Gallery, IHC Delhi. It is the gist of Mrinmoy Barua’s fundamentals as an artist. Featuring paintings delineating women empowerment,  This solo art exhibition is both a felicitation to womanhood and a commitment to encourage the unprejudiced thoughts of the present-time society.

Welcoming the monsoons of 2018 with colours, The Vivacious lays its foundation on 28th July 2018 and continuous to hold the prominence till 31st July 2018. An honour so vast to hold on, the national award-winning artist, receives admiration and support for his paintings from the eminent classical dance start, Padmashri Geeta Chandran, as she inaugurates the show on 28th July. While many visitors admired the paintings as an iconic masterpiece of the 21st-century contemporary art, honourable chief guest Ms. Geeta Chandran believes that the artwork is a rare combination of depth and revolution.

Ms. Geeta Chandran says, “As an artist, as a dancer, I think the arts are all interlinked and they have a connect. So, as a dancer to be inaugurating a visual arts exhibition, is really truly very meaningful.” Crafted with the vibrant and bold strokes of gold, Mrinmoy Barua’s paintings at The Vivacious presents a modest argument in favour of the upliftment of women in the society. “I always have believed that watching visual arts gives me a great inspiration to create something different in my work. Today’s work is very special because the abstracts truly moved me, in terms of colours, texture and in terms of the whole idea”, Ms. Chandran adds.

With the best collection spanning the artist’s career, this solo art exhibition continuous to attract art lovers, as it illuminates his creative process through his experiences and engagements in life. Throughout the days, The Vivacious was on view at the gallery, it continuously sought new ways to generate meaningful thoughts in the minds of the viewers. Moving between abstractions and allusions to colours, figures, and ideas, the show was able to successfully exhibit core aspects of perception, memory, emotion, understanding, and embodiment.

To bring out the art to light, Mrinmoy Barua directly worked with the curator of modern and contemporary art, Mr. Nipun Soin and created the poetic design of the exhibition. Finding harmony between the ambiance of the gallery and aesthetics of the artwork, They together chose the Visual Arts Gallery at IHC, to be the witness of this memorable narration of fine art.
